LAUNDRY AIDE/HOUSEKEEPING AIDE

A temporary full time Laundry Aide/Housekeeping Aide position is available within our Support Services Department at the Louise Marshall Hospital site.

This position is unionized with OPSEU, Local 226.

LAUNDRY REQUIREMENTS:       

  • OHHA Laundry certificate or equivalent for Hospital setting preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years related experience working in Laundry Department required
  • Working knowledge of the safe handling and usage of cleaning materials and chemicals
  • Assure quality standards are met and continually maintained
  • Previous experience in lighting of OR linens and recognizing the importance of this process for infection control
  • Ensuring linen supplies for all departments are in sufficient quantities daily
  • Working knowledge and experience in the operation of equipment in Housekeeping and Laundry departments
  • Assist in monitoring, adjusting and ordering of supplies as needed
  • Ability to keep accurate records to submit to Manager for month end
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to receive written and verbal instructions concerning job routines, operation of equipment and safety precautions
  • Ability to work and set priorities ensuring consistent flow of production
  • Maintain positive working relationships and contribute to a team environment
  • Good attendance record is essential
  • Ability to carry out the physical aspects inherent in this position (see working conditions below).

HOUSEKEEPING REQUIREMENTS:       

  • Housekeeping experience in hospital or similar environment is required
  • Housekeeping Certificate for Healthcare setting preferred
  • Ability to receive written and verbal instructions concerning job routines, operation of equipment and safety precautions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with computer processes of email, intranet, word and excel preferred
  • Familiarity with Hospital Waste protocols and standards
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a team environment
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Control procedures in a health care setting
  • Ability to carry out the physical aspects inherent in this position (see working conditions below).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Physical demands of the jobs require tasks that involve repeated lifting, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing carts, periodic climbing which include ladders, operation of floor machines and other equipment
  • Visual acuity and concentration is required for lighting of the OR linens process

HOURS OF WORK:             

  • As per department schedule
  • As per Collective Agreement
