Dialysis Unit Opens!
The Palmerston and District Hospital Dialysis Unit celebrated its Grand Opening June 26th, 2008 and is pleased to report that the Unit was completed on time and within budget. Patients will start receiving treatment on July 7th, 2008. Dignitaries who will bring greetings and cut the ribbon to officially open the Unit include MPP for Perth Wellington, John Wilkinson, Waterloo-Wellington LHIN Board Chair, Kathy Durst, Grand River Hospital Board Chair, Kris Bailey, Grand River Hospital Renal Program Director, Joy Bevan, NWHC Board Chair, Patti-Jo McLellan Shaw and PDH Board Member Paul Brown. The Unit is a satellite program under the direction of the Grand River Hospital Regional Dialysis Program. Joy Bevan, Program Director, Renal Program at Grand River Hospital states, “We have nine patients at this point in time ready to start their dialysis treatment at PDH. They are thrilled to be able to have care so close to home and eliminate the drive to Kitchener.” The total cost of the project is $2.9 million with the majority of the funding coming from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The Palmerston District Hospital Foundation has contributed $500,000 towards the project. NWHC is very appreciative of this support and President and CEO Jerome Quenneville states, “The strong financial support from both the Ministry and our community reflects the importance of this service for our area.” "Congratulations to North Wellington Health Care, Palmerston and District Hospital site, on the opening of the new Dialysis Unit," stated John Wilkinson, MPP, Perth-Wellington. "Our government is committed to supporting our rural communities, especially our beloved rural hospitals. Partnerships such as this one provide critical services for our loved ones, close to home." NWHC Board Chair, Patti-Jo McLellan Shaw states “Relationships with neighbouring larger hospitals are critical for small rural hospitals to provide specialty services, such as dialysis, in convenient locations for residents. We are very pleased to have a strong partnership with Grand River Hospital and look forward to other opportunities for joint programming.” The Dialysis Clinic as a collaborative project with Grand River Hospital’s Regional Dialysis Program will operate three days per week initially. North Wellington residents will benefit from “quality care close to home”.
