WHAT TO BRING TO THE HOSPITAL
NOTE: Radios, electric razors, etc. must be approved by the Maintenance Department before they are connected to a hospital outlet. MEALS/CAFETERIA All food is prepared and served under the supervision of trained personnel. Patients are visited on a regular basis by the Dietary Supervisor during their stay. Cafeteria service is available to visitors between 7:00 am and 6:30 pm in Louise Marshall Hospital and at Palmerston and District Hospital between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm. READING ROOM Reading materials are available for patient use in the patient lounge. QUIET ROOM A quiet, private room is available in the nursing unit. Family members are invited to spend their time in quiet reflection or personal discussion. SAFETY REGULATIONS Accident, injury or other incidents must be reported immediately to the Manager of Patient Care. PATIENT ACCOMODATION We make every effort to admit you to the type of accommodation you request. If it is not immediately available, you may subsequently be transferred to similar accommodations, based upon the level of your hospital insurance coverage or acceptable guarantor. FLOWERS/BALLOONS Large arrangements are discouraged. Highly perfumed flowers are undesirable due to allergy concerns. No peonies, hyacinth or lilies are permitted. Plants and flowers are potential carriers of insects. Fallen flower petals also create the danger of slipping. Latex balloons are prohibited by hospital policy. Latex is also a source of allergic reactions. SMOKING Louise Marshall Hospital and Palmerston and District Hospital are smoke free hospitals. If you need to smoke, you may only do so in the one designated smoking area on each property. At Louise Marshall Hospital, the smoking area is located outside the main entrance (by the flagpole). At Palmerston and District Hospital, the smoking area is located across from the ER doors (on the boulevard). Smoking is not permitted in any other area of the hospital property. Members of the Nursing Staff are fully authorized to ensure these regulations are followed. Smoking materials and matches can be removed from any patient if assessed as being a danger to himself/herself or to others. FIRE DRILL During your stay in the hospital you may experience a fire drill. Do not worry. The drill tests the system and the quality of personnel training. Most important, it provides efficient fire protection for your safety. Should a real emergency exist, you will be notified at once and assisted by our trained staff. Patients and visitors must stay in the patients room when they hear the fire alarm. Do not walk in corridors, go through fire doors or exit the hospital. In the event of a real fire, the sudden rush of air could feed a fire. CHAPLAIN SERVICES A minister or priest is available upon request. Please call Admitting Department by dialing 0 and advise them of your denomination if you wish to have clergy visits. Routine visits are made approximately twice a week by each denomination. VALUABLES It is unwise to bring jewelry, large sums of money or other valuables to the hospital. If you have to bring them with you, arrangements can be made to place them in trust during your stay. Eyeglasses and dentures should be kept in the drawer of your bedside table when not in use. TELEVISION Television sets may be rented from the hospital at $7.00/day plus taxes. Personal television sets are not allowed to be brought from home. If you would like television service ask the Nursing or Admitting Staff. A television will be connected at your bedside in the early afternoon. You must pay a $5.00 deposit before hook up. The $5.00 deposit you made will be deducted from your total bill. You will be charged $2.50 plus taxes for the purchase of an earpiece. The television will be disconnected at your request or upon discharge. The rental fees for the television must be paid before you leave the hospital. TELEPHONES There is a Pay Telephone in the front lobby at both Louise Marshall Hospital and Palmerston and District Hospital and at the Palmerston and District Hospital emergency entrance. If you wish a bedside phone you will be charged a daily service rate of $2.00 plus taxes. You must pay a $5.00 deposit before hook up. The phone will be disconnected at your request or upon discharge. Rental fees must be paid before you leave the hospital. The $5.00 deposit you made will be deducted from your total bill. DISCHARGE FROM HOSPITAL Patients should make every effort to leave by 11:00 a.m. on day of discharge. Each patient must report to the Nursing Staff and the Admitting Staff before leaving the hospital. THE HOSPITAL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PERSONAL ARTICLES, CLOTHING, MONEY AND OTHER PERSONALS LEFT AT YOUR BEDSIDE. COMPLIANTS OR CONCERNS To be reported to Manager of Patient Care. Prior to discharge, you are encouraged to complete a Comments Card. Suggestions and criticism concerning your care are welcomed. Criticism of personal care and concerns that require immediate attention should be directed to the Charge Nurse or Director of Patient Care so that corrections can be made immediately. PARKING Visitor parking is in the front lot only. Patients who wish to park their cars on hospital property during their stay in hospital must obtain permission from Admitting. |
