The Wellington Health Care Alliance (WHCA) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Construction Manager to join our Project Team, for a 2-year contract term. The Construction Manager will act as the hospital’s representative working with a multi-disciplinary team of hospital staff, professional consultants, contractors, subcontractors and authorities having jurisdiction to guide the planning, design, implementation, contract administration and close-out of the multiple projects across the two NWHC (Louise Marshall Hospital & Palmerston District Hospital) sites.

We require an individual who:

  • Will lead hospital representative responsible for the Project Delivery and management of construction for NWHC
  • Will focus on hospital expansion at LMH site and will include renovations, new construction, decanting, and other related work across NWHC hospital sites
  • Will ensure that the project objectives, including schedule and costs are met and improved when possible
  • Has the ability to manage all construction and site related issues and be the key point of contact with Project Co. construction office including interactions with project consultants, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Is responsible for acting as the key liaison between the Redevelopment Office, Transition (operating)  and ICAT Team for Project Planning, Facility Commissioning and Facility Maintenance (FM) services
  • Will maintain a coherent flow of directives and information among the project team members, and ensure coordination and control of appropriate information between the integrated project team and the Hospital
  • Will ensure timely identification of issues and communication of project status to users and stakeholders, including but not limited to information concerning schedule, risk management, and other issues affecting the project, and facilitates timely decisions related to above
  • Will prepare written reports or oral presentations to key Hospital staff, Committees and Boards

You have:

  • Certified Engineering Technician (C.E.T.) designation or an equivalent combination of academic and practical experience
  • PMP Project Management status (as an asset)
  • 5-10 years’ experience in leading and implementing large scale construction projects, preferably within complex hospital environments.  Acute care hospital construction project experience is preferred
  • A proven track record on similar projects, and a strong awareness of the complexities associated with the ongoing hospital programs, services and systems 
  • Demonstrated understanding of contribution to patient and staff safety
  • Ability to work with multiple initiatives and understand the interrelation of the many ‘moving parts’ as they affect the delivery of the project
  • An ability to view the organization from a broad context and understand the complexity and interdependent nature of patient care processes and the impact and implications of decisions on the quality of patient care or service provision
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project
  • Strong effective customer relationship skills and teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, self-directed learning/working style with the ability to manage several large, complex competing projects and initiatives simultaneously
